MY DYING BED

Verse 1

She don’t care about the music

She just sways and listens to it

with her eyes closed, just to clear her head

Sitting there all alone

in a dress of calico

I want her sitting by my dying bed

Verse 2

Her golden hair, how it flows

and her lips could shame a rose

I’m hem and hawing, wishing we were wed

I should try and let her linger

but want my ring upon her finger

I want her sitting by my dying bed

Chorus 1

What a day that would be

If she said yes to me

And forever I will be

with the only one for me

I want her sitting by my dying bed

Verse 3

As my words I try to find

I take a swig of moonshine

To find the courage to let nothing go unsaid

I arise from my chair

and as I’m walking over there

I say a prayer to the Lord in my head

Verse 4

As I offer her my hand

She takes it and begins to stand

Not a word between us was said

As the band begins to play

We dance the night away

Let her be mine 'til my dying day

Chorus 2

What a day that would be

If she said yes to me

And forever I will be

with the only one for me

I want her sitting by my dying bed
